Local Fire Weather Index

The Fire Weather Index is not the same as the Fire Danger rating. The Fire Danger "adjective" warning takes into account many factors for a specific geographic region. The Fire Weather Index is a risk evaluation based only upon current weather conditions and ranges from 0 to 100, where risk increases with larger numbers. For example, the National Weather Service will issue a "Red Flag Warning" when the Fire Weather Index is 40 or higher for more than 3 hours, over a geographic region of 4 or more counties.
